It is a moment of deep grief and sorrow to the Nepalese community in Ottawa. Vijaya Ghimire Bhandari, beloved wife of Ganesh Bhandari; caring mother of Yash Bhandari; loving daughter of Maya Devi Ghimire & Keshav Mani Ghimire and sister of Brinda, Bigyan & Binayak passed away on Thursday, September 03, 2009 at Elisabeth Bruyère Health Center, Ottawa after battling cancer. We are extremely saddened by this loss that has befallen to Bhandari family.


NCAO Executive Board meeting was held on Saturday September 05, 2009 to express the deepest condolence to Ganesh Bhandari and his family. NCAO Board members, on behalf of Nepalese community in Ottawa, visited Bhandari family to express condolence.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bhandari family at this moment of grief and extreme sorrow.

Thirteenth Day Prayer and Prasad

The funeral ritual will end on the 13th day performing Shuddha Shanti, Havan and Prasad Offering to family and friends as per Hindu rituals. Bhandari family has organized the 13th day ritual at the Ottawa Hindu temple. Ganesh Bhandari and his family cordially invites you to attend this 13th day ritual for prayers and Prasad.

For those who wish, donations in memory of Vijaya may be made to "Vijaya Ghimire Bhandari Memorial Fund" by contacting Navin Gautam or Pawan Agrawal.

I wish I were there with you on Sept 3. This is terrible and totally unacceptable. But as they say, heaven is in short supply of good people. I am sure they are right about it.
I am reading about this terrible loss only now and don't know how to communicate it to Aruna. She is going to be in a bigger shock than I am in now.

Shubha and I remember the wonderful times spent with you and family with Vijaya lighting up every occassion with her beautiful smile and her wonderful spirit. Let me first of all express my sincere condolences on the death of our beloved Vhavi. She will be greatly missed. I still remember the day when you guys moved to Louisville and afterwards we went to Nepalese gathering. There were so many other things we did together such as Outdoor cooking in Seneca Park and playing anitasir in your apartment. She was such a very lovely and caring person. She will be missed.

This is our heart-felt condolence for your family. Ganesh we are truly saddened by your loss.
We had met Vijaya when you guys were in Pleasanton and she was a person full of energy and respect. We remember her, also your stories of going on biking together to keep fit and other joys of being with her. I remember you used to talk about her always. We still cannot believe this has happened.
We want you to know that Vijaya is in our thoughts and we are with you and Yash as you go through this utmost difficult time.

I hope you find the courage - for you and your son - Yash - to cope with this huge loss. Vijaya would had wanted you to do the same. We know you are strong and your will has to be take above your emotions.

Vijaya ji was always nice to care of others. The moment, I was with my wife to see her in the hospital about 51 hours before her demise. She was worry about me not to have dinner that late as I was directly from my office. We will miss her in every moment, soccer, volley ball and get together. We pray for her departed soul to rest in peace and strength to this unrecoverable loss of Ganesh jii, Yesh Babu and bereaved family members.

When we went to play volley ball during February 2009, immidiately after our arrival to Ottawa, I first met Vijaya bhauju. We often play in the same team and she was really keen to play volley ball, and wants me to pass the ball on to her so that she could have chance to through the ball over net.

After some while of our intimacy in play ground, Vijaya bhauju and Ganesh Ji came to drop me once and we spent some time in my appartment. I can freshly recall the expressions of Vijaya bhauju on how she overcomed the trouble she had to face some while back.

She was a very nice person. A day before she was hospitalized, she asked me to care/ love her like a brother since she does not have a person like my wife who at that time taking care of Ganesh jee by providing extra cake or sweets. Her statement was imprinted in my mind eternally and this keeps her alive in my recall forever.
